Banded Agate Geode — Standing Freeform with a Crescent Druzy Cave

A dark agate nodule cut open and polished into a standing freeform. The opening is a long crescent, narrow at the top and curling to a point at the bottom, and the whole of it is packed with fine smoky brown druzy that throws back light from across a room. Around it the agate is almost black at the edges, softening through charcoal into a pale gray white band that frames the cave. The back and one side carry crusty cream and sage colored patches where the nodule was still rough. The bottom is cut flat.
Size: about 3 inches tall and about 2.4 inches wide
Weight: 13.6 ounces
The agate is from Uruguay.
One of a kind, exactly the piece in the photos.
Turn the crescent toward the room and put a light to one side of it. The druzy is fine enough that it reads as a soft shimmer rather than separate sparkles, and the dark polished shell around it keeps all the attention inside the opening. It wants a surface you pass rather than one you look down on, so a shelf at eye level or a low bookcase top does more for it than a desk.
Agate is the steady one. It is the stone people keep for the long middle of things, the stretch that is not a crisis and not a triumph, when what is needed is to simply keep going at the same pace. Banded agate in particular has long been read as a record of patience, each layer laid down in its own time and none of them hurried, and it is kept for grounding, for steadiness of temper, and for the slow building of confidence that cannot be rushed into place. A piece opened to a cave like this one carries that a little differently, as something kept for the quiet inside a busy life rather than for show. Many set one where the day starts, a hallway, a kitchen shelf, a bedside, and let the dark outside and the light inside make the point without saying anything.
