Banded Agate Geode — Standing Freeform with a Long Caramel Druzy Channel

A whole agate nodule cut open down its length and polished. The outside is deep blue gray with pale banding that follows the shape of the stone, and the opening runs almost the full height as a narrow channel packed with warm caramel druzy. The back face carries a tan dendritic patch, like a sprig pressed into the stone. The bottom is cut flat. The agate is from Uruguay.
Size: about 4 inches tall and about 2 inches wide
Weight: 1 pound
One of a kind, exactly the piece in the photos.
The channel is the trick here. Stand it so the opening faces a lamp or a window and the caramel druzy lights up along the whole length while the outside stays dark, which is why this one reads well on a mantel or a shelf where people walk past it rather than on a desk where it is seen from above.
Agate is the steady one. It is the stone people keep for the long middle of things, the stretch that is not a crisis and not a triumph, when what is needed is to simply keep going at the same pace. Banded agate in particular has long been read as a record of patience, each layer laid down in its own time and none of them hurried, and it is kept for grounding, for steadiness of temper, and for the slow building of confidence that cannot be rushed into place. Many keep a piece where decisions get made, at a desk or by a door, as a reminder to answer slowly. It is also carried for protection in the plain sense of the word, a stone that holds its shape and asks you to hold yours.
