A little cave you can hold in one hand.

This is an agate geode, cut open and polished across the face so you can see straight into the hollow where it grew. Amber and dark chocolate bands ring the outside edge, then soften into a smoky blue gray toward the middle, and right at the heart there is an open pocket lined with tiny druzy crystals. Turn it toward a lamp or a window and that pocket lights up and throws sparks back at you. Photographs never quite catch it.

The base is cut flat so he stands on his own with no stand needed, and the back and sides are left raw, chalky and pale, exactly the rough rind the stone wore underground. That contrast between the raw outside and the polished window is most of the appeal.

Agate is spoken of as the steady one, the stone people reach for when things feel loud and they want to come back down to their own pace. It is tied to balance, to patience, and to the slow kind of strength that does not need to announce itself. Geodes carry that a step further. A stone that spent its whole life quietly growing crystals in a hidden hollow tends to get read as a reminder that the good things are often forming somewhere you cannot see yet.

Put him where you sit down at the end of the day, or anywhere the light moves across the room and finds him.

This is the exact geode in the photographs. There is only one of him.
