A natural geode cut flat on the base so it stands on its own, opened to a cave of tiny quartz crystals in charcoal and silver gray. Turn it in the light and the whole face glitters like wet sand. A thin band of white and gray agate lines the rim, and the outside is the rough gray rock it grew inside of, left as it came out of the ground.
This is a druzy geode. Druzy means a crust of very small crystals grown over a surface, and here that surface is the inside of the geode, so every bump and hollow is covered in sparkle. The dark color is natural to this material, and it is the kind often sold as black amethyst. What you are holding is quartz druzy colored dark by iron, and it reads charcoal and silver rather than purple.
