Caribbean calcite is two minerals grown together. The soft blue is aragonite, the creamy white and tan is calcite, and where they meet you get these drifting bands that look like shallow water seen from above. This piece was cut as a crescent, so the banding runs across the curve and the pale blue pools in the wide part of the moon the way light pools in the shallows.

It is polished smooth on the face and it keeps small natural pits and open vugs, the tiny caves the crystal left behind while it grew. Those catch shadow and give the surface depth. There is a fine white vein running down through the middle like a seam of frost.

It comes on the gold stand shown, which holds it upright and lets it turn to the light. Off the stand it is comfortable in two hands and pleasant to hold, cool and heavy for its size.

WHAT THIS STONE IS FOR

Caribbean calcite is the calm stone. Aragonite is spoken of as the steadying half, the one associated with patience and with settling an overstretched mind, and calcite as the gentle amplifier that clears out what has gone stale. Together they are read as the stone for rest that actually restores, and people who work with crystals often put a piece of it in a bedroom rather than a workspace for exactly that reason.

It is strongly associated with the dreaming mind. Caribbean calcite has a reputation for vivid dreams and for remembering them, and for the sort of insight that arrives when you have stopped chasing it. A NOTE ON NATURAL STONE

This is a natural stone that was cut and polished, so expect variation. You will find open vugs and small pits where the crystal grew hollow, tan and gray banding through the blue, and color that runs from strong turquoise to almost white across the piece. Calcite is a softer stone than quartz, so it will mark if it is knocked against something harder. Keep it somewhere it will be looked at rather than handled roughly.
