She is the calm one. A rounded celestite geode about 3.5 inches across and just under two pounds in the hand, cracked open on one side to a bed of pale sky blue crystals, each one a sharp little block with a glassy face, packed edge to edge around a small dark hollow in the middle. The outside is a rough cream and tan crust, exactly as it came out of the ground, so it sits in your palm like a river stone that happens to be full of sky.
Here is the thing about celestite that makes people keep one on the nightstand. The color is real and it is the stone's own. Celestite is strontium sulfate, and strontium is the element that makes fireworks burn red, so this soft blue stone is quietly made of the same stuff as the brightest thing in a night sky. Turn it in daylight and the crystals go from milky to clear to almost silver, and in low evening light the blue deepens and the whole face reads like a pool.
Celestite is read in crystal lore as the stone of calm and of the higher self, the one people reach for when their head will not stop. It is associated with the throat and crown chakras, with clear, gentle speech, with sleep and with the kind of peace that feels like a held breath finally let go. It is the classic bedside stone, the one to keep where you see it last at night and first in the morning. Put it on a nightstand, a bathroom shelf where the morning light lands, or a windowsill where the sun can get into the crystals and light them from behind.
It sits flat on its crust with no stand needed. Celestite is a soft mineral and the crystals are delicate, so it lives where it will not be knocked, out of direct hot sun, which can fade the blue over years, and it is not for water or salt.
