A heavy chunk of host rock with a wide open face of cobalto calcite across it, the raspberry pink kind, packed edge to edge in tiny sparkling crystals.

The pink is the whole point. Cobalto calcite gets its color from cobalt sitting in the calcite structure, and it runs from a pale rose at the edges to a deep raspberry in the middle of the face where the crystals are thickest. Scattered through the pink are small bright green spots of malachite, and the cream and gray host rock frames the whole thing like a setting. The back and sides are plain rock, so this is a one face piece meant to be seen from the front.

Size: about 4.5 inches long and about 2.75 inches tall and about 2.25 inches deep
Weight: 1 pound 12.5 ounces
Origin: the Congo

One of a kind, exactly the piece in the photos.

Angle it toward the light rather than setting it flat. The crystals are tiny and faceted, so the sparkle only shows when the light comes across the face at a slant, and a lamp to one side does more for it than a bright room does. It is heavy enough to hold a stack of papers down on a desk, and that is honestly where a piece like this earns its keep, somewhere you pass it several times a day.

Cobalto calcite is the stone people reach for when they want something softer than rose quartz and less obvious. It carries the usual calcite reputation for clearing out stale energy, with the pink reading as self directed rather than romantic, the kind of thing you keep for yourself rather than give to somebody else. Collectors buy it for the color alone and most of them do not pretend otherwise.
