This flame is quiet on the outside and wild on the inside. The polished body is soft gray and white agate, dusted all over with black dendrite speckles like ink flicked across paper, with a rust and tan layer at the base where the stone changes character. Then the front opens up. A pocket breaks through the polish into a cave of sparkling quartz crystals, sugar white at the edges and going smoky and clear deeper in, with a second smaller pocket to the side and a few frosted points standing up inside.
It stands on its own on a flat base, about four inches tall, and it turns well in the hand. Under a lamp the pocket lights up first and the dendrites read like tiny black stars across the surface.
Agate is read as the steadying stone, the one people keep close when they want calm that lasts, and the gray and white kind is taken as the gentlest of them, a stone for balance and quiet focus. The dendrites are read as growth, little branching patterns that stand for roots and patience.
