Large Dioptase Crystal Plate with Plancheite on Matrix, Emerald Green and Blue Copper Mineral, Congo, 5 x 2 Inch Display Specimen

This is the kind of specimen that stops people mid-sentence. Five inches of vivid emerald dioptase crystals covering the front face, framed by soft blue plancheite that wraps around the edges and takes over the entire back. Two minerals, two colors, one piece that looks like it was designed by someone with an unfairly good eye for composition.

The front is pure drama. Dense clusters of well-formed dioptase crystals cover the surface in that electric emerald green that dioptase is famous for. The crystals are glassy and translucent, catching light from every angle, with individual prisms visible throughout the cluster. Blue plancheite borders the green like a natural frame, creating a contrast that makes the emerald pop even harder.

Flip it over and you get a completely different specimen. The back is covered in blue plancheite with a textured, almost coral-like surface and darker mineral veining throughout. It's beautiful in its own right. This is genuinely a two-sided display piece.

At 5 x 2 inches, this is a substantial plate specimen with real shelf presence. The thin plate form makes it perfect for upright display on the included acrylic tripod stand, where it reads almost like a piece of natural art.

Both dioptase and plancheite are copper secondary minerals that form in the oxidation zones of copper deposits. Finding them together in this kind of coverage and contrast is what makes Congo copper belt specimens so sought after by collectors. This locality produces some of the finest dioptase in the world, and specimens with strong plancheite association are particularly prized.
