Some specimens make you lean in. This one makes you hold your breath.
Nearly three pounds of crystallized hemimorphite covers the surface of this massive plate in two distinct color zones that look like they were painted by someone who understood exactly when to switch brushes. Icy blue-white crystal clusters blanket the outer areas with that signature hemimorphite shimmer, while a dramatic center cluster blooms in warm peach and salmon tones. The two colors meet and mingle across the surface without a hard line between them, creating a natural gradient that is genuinely rare in mineral specimens.
The individual crystals are fan-shaped and tabular, stacking and overlapping like shingles on a roof made of light. In the blue zones, they're translucent and frosty, catching light along every edge. In the peach zone, they take on a warm glow from natural iron inclusions that tinted the crystals as they grew. You can see the crystal habit clearly across the entire surface, which means this specimen spent a long time growing undisturbed in exactly the right conditions.
At 8 by 6 inches, this is not a subtle piece. It commands whatever surface you put it on. Displayed on the included acrylic stand with metal supports, it reads like a sculptural centerpiece. The kind of thing that makes someone walk into a room and ask, "What is that?"
Hemimorphite is a zinc silicate that forms in the oxidation zones of zinc and lead deposits. The name comes from the Greek "hemi" (half) and "morph" (form), because each crystal is shaped differently at its two ends. It's one of the few minerals with this asymmetric crystal structure, which gives specimens their distinctive layered, fan-like habit.
This specimen is from the copper-zinc mining region of the Republic of Congo, which produces some of the most visually striking hemimorphite in the world. The bicolor quality of this piece, blue and peach on the same specimen, is particularly uncommon and highly sought by collectors.
In crystal traditions, hemimorphite is associated with the throat and third eye chakras. It's considered a stone of emotional balance, self-expression, and personal evolution. The blue variety is linked to communication and clarity, while the warmer tones connect to joy and compassion. Having both on one specimen is like holding a conversation between your heart and your voice.
