A big raw plate of fibrous malachite, about 5.75 inches across and 4.25 inches tall, held up in the light on a custom steel stand with a solid wood base, so all of that green faces the room. The front is a field of velvet rosettes, hundreds of tiny fans of needle crystals packed shoulder to shoulder, and the color runs from deep bottle green in the hollows to a soft frosted sea green where the light catches the tips of the fibers. Turn it and the back is a completely different stone, dark botryoidal malachite in smooth rounded bubbles, like the plate was poured and set. Both faces are exactly as they grew. Nothing here has been cut or smoothed.
The stand does the work for you. Two steel arms cradle the plate from behind and a third rests it against the wood base, so the malachite floats a couple of inches off the surface with light getting in around every edge. It needs a spot with room to breathe, the middle of a console table, a shelf at eye level, the corner of a desk where the afternoon sun can reach it, and it will read as a small sculpture from across the room.
