A basalt geode opened to show a cavity packed with blocky peach crystals, the color of the inside of a shell against a rough gray shell of volcanic rock.
The crystals are the draw. They grow in flat stacked blades, salmon pink where the light hits straight on and almost white in the hollows, and they fill the whole opening rather than dusting it. Around the rim the growth spills out over the edge in a pale crust, and the basalt behind is speckled with small white spots.
This is one half of a gas bubble that filled with crystal over millions of years, which is what a geode is, and this one broke open on the useful side.
About 2.25 inches across and about 2.25 inches tall, weighing 6.1 ounces. It sits flat on its own rough base with no stand.
Put it somewhere close rather than somewhere high. The pleasure of this one is the detail in the cavity, so a desk, a bedside table or a shelf you pass at eye level does far more for it than a top shelf across the room.
Zeolites are the quiet minerals. They grew in the empty spaces left behind by cooling lava, which is a fair description of what they are asked to do for people, settle into the hollow places and fill them slowly. Peach colored ones in particular get reached for when someone wants softness rather than force, a gentler sort of courage. Keep it where you rest rather than where you push.
One of a kind. You are seeing the exact geode you will receive, photographed from every side.
