Pyrite Sphere from Peru — 2.5 Inch Polished Ball with Sparkling Gold Crystal Pockets and a Clear Stand

A pyrite sphere from Peru, polished until the metal shines, with clusters of small brassy crystals left rough across the surface so it catches light from every angle.

Pyrite is a metal, and this is the piece that teaches people that. Half the surface takes a mirror polish, warm gold and almost liquid looking. The other half is a field of tiny cubic crystals packed tight, dark in the hollows and bright on the points, so the whole ball flickers as you turn it.

The weight is the part nobody expects. It is 2.538 inches across and weighs 1 pound 1.5 ounces, which is about two and a half times what a quartz ball the same size would weigh. Hand it to someone without warning and watch their arm drop.

It comes with the clear acrylic ring stand in the photos, so it will sit where you put it and not roll.

Put it somewhere it gets direct light for part of the day. A desk that catches morning sun, a shelf by a lamp, anywhere the light moves across it, because a flat room light makes it look gray and the moment a beam hits those crystal faces it goes gold.

Pyrite has always been the stone of doing rather than wishing. It is the one people keep on a desk or near their work, for follow through and for the nerve to back yourself, and it has carried a reputation for drawing in what you are actually working toward rather than what you are daydreaming about. Miners called it fool's gold because it fooled them, which tells you how convincing it is in the hand. Keep it where the work happens.

One of a kind. You are seeing the exact sphere you will receive, photographed from every side.
