A thick round of agate cut and polished on one face and left completely raw on the other, so you get the finished stone and the rock it came out of in the same piece.
The polished face is the show. White and cream plumes radiate from a small druzy pocket at the center, the kind of pattern that looks like frost spreading across a window, and the whole face sits inside a caramel and amber rind that follows the natural edge of the nodule. Hold it up and the pale bands go soft and luminous where the stone thins.
Turn it over and it is a different object. The back is the unworked outside of the nodule, rough and sandy with quartz showing through, and the contrast between the two faces is the reason this one is worth having rather than another polished round.
About 4.5 inches across and weighing 1 pound 1.3 ounces. It is a substantial piece of stone, thick enough to feel like a slab rather than a coaster.
It comes with the clear acrylic easel stand in the photos, which holds the polished face out.
Stand it where light comes from behind or beside rather than straight on. Side light travels through the thinner bands and makes the plumes glow, and a windowsill or a shelf near a lamp will show you what a flat overhead light hides.
Agate is the steadying one. It is the stone people reach for when everything feels loud, the one that asks you to slow down rather than push harder. A slice like this, cut open to show what was hidden inside a plain lump of rock, has always carried the idea that the interesting part is under the surface and worth the trouble of looking. Put it where you will actually pick it up.
One of a kind. You are seeing the exact slice you will receive, photographed from every side.
