Because most sodalite is blue with white veining and that is lovely and all, but this one showed up looking like the earth got creative and painted a sunset directly into a rock. Deep ocean blue. Rivers of warm orange and rust wrapping around it like it is wearing a sash to an awards ceremony. White calcite clouds drifting through. It genuinely looks like a tiny planet and we are not the first people to pick it up and just slowly rotate it for a while.

The orange is natural iron oxide. Not painted. Not treated. The earth made these colors, buried them for a few million years, and then someone found them and polished them into a sphere. That is the whole story. Geology really outdid itself on this one.

Sodalite forms in a rare type of igneous rock and most of it comes out blue. The ones with this kind of dramatic orange banding are called "sunset sodalite" and they are significantly harder to find. This sphere has the banding wrapping almost all the way around, which is not something you see every day. You will rotate it. You will keep finding new patterns. This is not a warning, it is a promise.
