A basalt geode opened down one face, the cavity lined in sugary white and holding a spray of fine scolecite needles that fan out from a single point.
The scolecite is why this one matters. They are long, clear and impossibly thin, radiating from a single point and crossing each other at the tips, and they sit inside a pocket of sparkling white druzy so the whole cavity throws light back at you. Around them the basalt is dense and gray with a sanded finish, which makes the white read even brighter.
It has been cut flat on the bottom, at the angle that shows the spray straight on.
Size: about 2.75 inches tall and about 1.5 inches wide
Weight: 6.5 ounces
Put it where light hits it from the front or the side, close enough to look into. The needles are fine enough that they disappear at a distance and come alive when you get near, so a desk, a shelf at eye level or a bedside table serves it far better than a high shelf.
These are the quiet minerals, grown in the empty bubbles left behind when lava cooled, filling hollow places slowly over an unimaginable stretch of time. Scolecite in particular is held to be a stone of clarity and of untangling, the sort of thing people keep nearby when there is a knot to think through. Set it somewhere you sit and think.
One of a kind. You are seeing the exact geode you will receive, photographed from every side.
